The driver of a motorcycle was killed on West Point Road about 3 p.m. Tuesday after a collision.

According to people at the scene, a silver Pontiac Grand Prix was stopped in the northbound lane to take a left onto Hamilton Drive. A northbound Dodge Ram pickup that came over the hill near the intersection slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the rear end of the Pontiac. Another northbound vehicle, a Toyota sedan, also quickly stopped behind the truck.

The victim was northbound on a 2007 Suzuki VI 800, then came over the hill at a high speed, according to people at the scene. The motorcycle braked, clipped the rear of the Toyota and was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The victim was identified this morning as Patrick Ryan Denney, 23, of Wedowee, Ala.

When Wanda McClellan drove up to the scene, Denney already was apparently dead. McClellan, who said she had prior medical experience, covered Denney’s body with a tarp.

Witnesses said the driver appeared to have suffered massive head trauma. Denney was wearing a helmet.

911 received the call for the accident at 2:56 p.m. Georgia State Patrol was investigating the crash.
