UNION — There will not only be awards for the best floats in this year’s Union Christmas Parade but an award for the best golf cart as well.
Renee Alexander, assistant to the director of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, announced this week that the parade, which will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, will not only feature a contest for the Best Decorated Float, but also a contest for the Best Golf Cart. Alexander said that there will first, second, and third place prizes awarded for the Best Decorated Float.
In the Best Golf Cart contest, Alexander said that this year golf carts will be judged and the best decorated awarded a prize. She said that any organization that plans to enter a golf cart in the parade is encouraged to decorate it and compete in the contest.
Alexander also announced that two businesses — Haemonetics, Wade’s Employment Agency — one cultural group — the Union County Arts Council — and one individual — Roger Bailey — will serve as this year’s parade marshals.
While a number of churches, clubs, groups, and individuals have registered to participate in the parade, Alexander said that more are welcome to do so. Those already signed up include:
• The Union County High School Marching Band
• Ray Parham and the Voices of Truth
• Diamond Krushers
• New Hope AME Zion Church
• James Chapel Baptist Church
• Maple Ridge Baptist Church
• Antioch AME Church
• New Emanuel Baptist Church
• Hejaz Warriors of the Shrine Club
Alexander said that Janice Patrick, a clown, has also signed up to participate as has Ray Petit of WRAP Enterprise in Pacolet. She said Petit has informed her that he will be driving a Dodge Ram 1500 which will be pulling a 2004 Ranger Bass Boat.
